The first thing is to connect a scanner to view live data and see exactly at what temperature the engine is running. If that is okay, suspect the sending unit for the dash gauge. Be sure the radiator fan is turning on when the engine is hot. Feel the upper radiator hose near the radiator end. It should be too hot to hold onto for very long. If it's relatively cool, you may want to have your mechanic perform a chemical test at the radiator for a leaking cylinder head gasket.
