Radiator fan coming on about three to four seconds after starting the car, have changed temperature sensor twice which seems to have cured the problem but after driving the car for a period of time fault returns, therefore I would like to know the cause of this problem

make sure that your coolant level is good and that your water pump is working. if you have heat, then your water pump is working. otherwise the ECM uses signal from the coolant temp sensor to turn on the fans. the only other scenario is a short in the fan power circuit but it would run all the time if that were the case. once it comes on now does it not ever shut off? does it run with the car off?

One thing that you have to remember is that the fan serves a dual purpose. It is also tied into the operation of the AC compressor and triggered by programmed pressure reading and/or compressor operation and in many systems these days, the compressor is programmed to run in numerous different modes if not full time.

The water level is good, the water pump is working. Once ignition is switched on the fan starts to work and runs until ignition is switched off, when check the code that comes up is P0117 which is Temperature sensor 1 circuit low.
