2001 Mazda Protege driver's side seat belt receptacle (female) broken and cannot find a replacement part without going to dealer ($$$$). Believe these are not universal parts so am worried that even if I find something, it won't fit what came with the car.

The female buckle shouldn't be that bad from the dealer the male part is the expensive one.Your best bet probably would be the dealer because exact fit aftermarket seat belt parts are really hard to find. You could try searching on line.
