I recently purchased a 2001 mazda miata limited edition, 6 speed transmission. The car runs great but will randomly stop running while driving on highway, etc. Is there some mechanism or computer problem with the 2001 models?

Yes or no you still have to perform diagnosis to find out the reason for it stalling.
Are you able to restart easily?
Are the dash indicator lights showing when engine stalled?
