I have a Mazda etude 1.60ise 2001 model and I am experiencing intermittent power loss when I am driving. The duration of the loss has now extended from a few seconds to a couple of minutes. When the problem occurs I floor the accelerator and the car is sluggish, I also get petrol smell, and when I put the car in neutral it idles very low. I have serviced the car after the first couple of times it was doing it, but now the problem seems even worse.

Is the Malfunction Indicator Light showing and have you checked for trouble codes?
