I have a 2001 Lincoln Town Car that smells like freon when I
turn on the air conditioner. Is this a heater core problem or
something else?
If it is a heater core, how urgent is the service needed to repair
it?
Thanks in advance.

Freon (refrigerant) has no smell so it has to be something else. If it's a sweet smell, it could be coolant leaking from the heater core.

VERY urgent. The car will overheat and your carpet may get saturated.
You can bypass it if you don't want to fix it right away. Just don't expect any heat.

No, no. No. That would be the dumbest thing you could do. That's a great way to ruin both the heater core and the radiator.
