recently replaced the main fuel pump and now my fuel gage is not going above a half a tank with a full tank of gas. The float seems to be working properly and no apparent electrical problems.

The float can be moving up and down, but the rheostat that sends the signal to the BCM and then to the gauge could be bad. That is what you need to have checked. Also, check to make sure there are no ground issues.
