2001 Lincoln LS car won't drive

My car will start but when I put it in drive and press the gas the it won't move. The car will reverse bit when gas is pressed the engine won't do anything. Is my transmission gone or what could it be?

have it scanned for codes first to see if you get anything. check your trans fluid if you can then have a trans guy look at it as it may be internal.
