If it sounds like the battery is drained, then we need to start with this.

Next we need to know what it sounds like so if you can get a recording of it that will help get us on the same page.
However, if this is just clunking once then this could be a starter issue or an engine issue.
Clearly the starter is not going to cause the engine to cut off, so we need to find out if the engine is locked up. You do this by putting a wrench on the crank pulley and try to turn the engine by hand.
Then we need to drain the oil and look for metal to find out if there is any in the oil. If there is and the engine does not spin by hand, then that means it is locked up and needs to be replaced.
