my 2001 jeep cherokee heater blows cold air. i checked the blend doors and they are fine. takes it forever for the engine to heat up on the temp gauge. im suspecting faulty thermostat? please help

I would be replacing the thermostat, with slow heat up and low engine temp this is the most likely cause, start here.

changed thermostat and still no heat. blend doors work fine! heater core not leaking! clogged heater core maybe? please help

Take off both heater hoses and using low pressure hose water flush the core, try this next.

took off both hoses and flushed core with preasure washer. read this trick on another page before i got your response. heater blows hot air now but after a while of driving the heat goes to luke warm? then it overheated and sprayed all fluid out radiator cap! refilled and tryed again, drove jeep twice the distance heat blew hot then luke warm then hot etc.but didn't overheat again and i checked for leaks and all is good? any sugestions? thank you!!

replace the thermostat.

You will have to get a cooling system pressure test done for any external leaks, check radiator cap and get radiator checked for part blockage, make sure fan is drawing air, if vicious coupling, ensure that it is working when the engine is hot and if all else fails check for as head problem.

i been driving vehichle for over a day and no problems. i had a new engine installed in this back in october (long block) new water pump,new radiator installed at same time. after i topped system back up with coolant ther doesnt seem to be any trouble. could it have been after the flush and thermostat change that i overlooked topping the system off with coolant or left the radiator cap loose? driven vehichle over 100 miles now with no problems. this prodject has left me sctraching my head lol!!! thank you for all your help!!
