He pulled the boot off the shifter knob and disconnected the linkage, thinking the cable was binding. Under the hood, we were able to move the shift lever on the transmission alright and put the car into reverse.
Closer inspection shows the cable snapped at the metal crimp tube which is connected to the transmission. He needs a new cable, so I'm wondering if this is something we can do at my place without much trouble? It looks like part of the intake manifold might have to get removed.
We're both pretty good with repair work and have plenty of tools. But I have plenty to do on my own car and don't want to have to help tear this thing apart.
