2001 hyundai sonata water pump

How do I know if my water pump is bad on my 2001 hyundai sonata v6 2.5,the water pump is not leaking and it only gets hot when its in gear, it will actually cool down if I put it in park, ive checked everything else radiators fine, fans are fine and so is my thermostat

Remove the radiator cap/reservoir cap-start the car run it for a few minutes, now pinch upper hose and closely observe the coolant flow in the radiator/bottle once you let go the coolant flow should increase
