Petrol consumption changes based on how the vehicle is driven. As far as adjusting something on the car, there is nothing. If you want to check consumption, fill the tank, set trip odometer, drive for a couple hundred miles, then refill the tank. Divide the mileage driven by the number of gallons used. That will give you your MPG
