trying to replace hood support with gas struts bought locally. this would be a modification to original. wanting to know what is required, and how to install.

Where do you plan on attaching them? If your current prop rod goes into a slot near the middle of the hood, that is to prevent it from kinking on the sides. It takes a lot of effort to retract hood struts and there's a real good chance your hood can't withstand that stress and will bend.
