Speedometer is not working

The speedometer is not working on my holden astra 2001 that I have just bought it was a reparable right off that has been fixed everything else is working ok the engine light is on so I don't know if that has anything to do with it? I just wanted to find out what the problem is and how to fix it I have someone with all the tools we are just not to sure how it is done.

Hello,

The check engine light and the speedo not working are related to each other both pointing to the VSS not working. I would replace the sensor first and see if that fixes it. The sensor is at the transmission on the final drive.

Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.
