whats the name of the part and what is wrong with it

i have a 2001 gmc yukon xl the shift lever gear was force down with out keys being in the ignigtion there for causing the truck not to start i was told that it was the steering colmun bracket but when i looked it up it said shift lock lever assembly so can you please give your opionion thankyou

I would say shift lever lock that keeps you from putting it in gear without stepping on the brake.
