rear brake lights dont work on 01 sierra, 6 cyl only the cab light. What can I look for?

my rear brake lights dont work only the cab light, what should I look for?

That is likely a bad combination switch in the steering column. It houses the turn signal switch and the 2 lower brake lights run through it so it can cancel the brake lights for turn signal.
