I woke up to find van with a dead battery. I switched batteries with my '68 squareback as I connected the black cable to negative post the cable to the alternater began to sizzle. I quickly disconnected. I did not tap for the spark. A mechanic came over to check it out. He put the original battery back in and jumped started it. Long story short he ended up replacing the alternater. Since then my radio has stopped working and my rear passenger doors stopped opening automatically. The left rear won't open at all. What do I do to get them going again?

Hello,

The power for the doors and radio come straight from the ignition switch so I would check the # 25 fuse and if it does not have power replace the ignition switch.

Here are some guides and diagrams to help you get the problem fixed.

Check out the diagrams below on how to change the switch

Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

Cheers, Ken
