Truck could be running hotter than normal and also check the EGR valve if its opening-that can cause detonation/pinging

Knock Sensor (2.3L) On left side of engine.
Knock Sensor (4.0L) On top center of engine.

The manual doesn't list one for the 2.5L.

I have an 2001 ford dealership shop manual and it shows that the 2.3 and 2.5 rangers with knock sensors only.

When is it pinging? After the shift when engine is under more load? Or at the higher RPM's before actually going into next gear? A lean condition can cause this as well, go simple and check the fuel filter if it hasnt been done yet
