CAM Chain

I have a Ford Mondeo Zetec 2001 reg. It is a diesel TDDI, with Cam chain. My local mechanic says I will have to change the chain, otherwise it will break and will then break the piston heads. His collegue working in the same shop says, it will happen only on the cars with Cam Belt and not with the Cars with the Cam Chain. I am now confused, whether to change it or not.

Please help!

Chains have no set time for replacement, only belts do, there is no need to replace the chain unless it is badly stretched and noisy.

Hi mhpautos,

Thanks for you reply. So if it not the chain, is there any other part like tensioners need to be replaced?

This car is now 106000 miles on the clock. But there are no unusal noise from the engine, it is nice clear.

Thanks A Million

No, there should be no issue here, if it starts and runs with out any rattle at start up all will be good, just keep the oil service up to date and do filters every change as well.
