Battery warning light comes on when driving, goes off when starting but lights up after few mins, I got a new battery middle of December?

Check alternator output.

alternator ?? could this be causing electrical burning smell from under the bonnet that has just stared since battery light started to come on , is it a case of , new alternator req

Generator. We Americans call it an alternator. It sounds like what's happened is the regulator died. And you'll probably have wires that need replacement because of the burning.
