exhaust pipe very hot and truck sounds like it is missing, rough idle, exhaust pipe smells and makes cracking noise due to heat build up?

Sounds like the catalytic converter is bad. With the exhaust cold tap on the converter. If it rattles then it is bad. What happens is that it breaks up inside and breaks up and clogs the exhaust from going through causing back pressure. The exhaust will get red hot from the back pressure and you will cause it to run rough and lose power
