Driving my 2001 manual transmission Ford single cab F150 down the freeway and I hear a pop and a plume of smoke, it shuts off, pull over and oil all over the side of the road. Would that have been my rear seal. It has had an going slow leak for some time?

I DON'T THINK THE REAR MAIN WOULD "POP"

WILL IT TURN OVER?

DO YOU HAVE ACCEPTABLE COMPRESSION?

THESE WOULD BE GOOD SIGNS---SEE IF YOU CAN FIND THE REASON FOR THE MASSIVE/ SUDDEN OIL SLICK
