grinding/clicking noise varies with speed, only present in drive and at slow speeds (5 to 20 mph)

Mike the brake rotor if its within specs-you sure its not coming from the wheel bearings

When the wheel lug nuts are correctly torqued, the stud to rotor clearance does not matter as the rotor would be fixed.
