I have an 2001 escort zx2 4 cyl 1.9 ltr dohc. I tried to start my car today and when I turned the key nothing happened at all no sound no nothing didnt even try to start I tried it a few more times still nothing but all my accessories came on and worked fine. I borrowed another car and left for work and during work my brother tried to start it and it fired up no problem at all first try. It was a lil chilly out today low 40s high 30s I dunno if that will affect anything. But I was wondering wht the problem could be? Bad starter
maybey?

There are a few possibilities:
1. Battery connections. Check if battery terminals are clean and secure. Repair as necessary.

2. Faulty ignition switch.

3. Starter or its curcuit.

4. Security system.

5. Battery. If it is a maintenance free battery, it can fail one moment and starts working the next.

6. Park Neutral Position switch.

Some of above components might not be really faulty but due to weather, they might fail intermittently.

When problem occurs you need to test if starter is getting power.
Check battery voltage.
Note if the security system is armed.
