changing the transmission

i am changing the transmission on a 2001 ford escort zx2 and have only one place to get at torque converter bolts but a socket wont fit in the hole. I there a special tool that is need to get at the bolts?

looking for tool or way to take out torque converter bolts on 2001 ford escort zx2

Some times if you remove the starter you can go through the hole .

In fords infinite wisdow they didnt give any room to get a socket or a wrench on the bolts there either. still looking for either a special tool or another avenue to attack this with

if there is no plate to remove on the bottom of the bell housing then Djcl is correct. remove the starter motor to gain acess.
