Smokey problem

I have done the head gasket all timed up it starts first turn of key but soon as the heater plug relay goes off the engine starts smoking and running rough until it gets warm then it is ok .

Is this diesel or gasoline? Have you had it scanned for codes> Where is the smoke coming from?

going to check for any codes but its a diesel and i am on about the exhaust smoke

Also do a cooling system pressure test with the engine warm.
