2001 Dodge Stratus Daughter Driving Last Night Rounded Corner Just Slowed Down

My daughter was driving her 2001 Dodge Stratus last night and she rounded a corner and it just slowed down and stopped. It wouldnt move in Drive or Reverse. It runs fine but it will not go if you press on the gas. It has always ran good. We just can afford to take it somewhere to get it fixed. My husband it pretty good at doing things to it. But we are stumped. Please help. Thanks

beyond checking the fluid, it sounds like the tran has failed
