is there a difference between a 3.5 and a 3.55 differential ?

I am trying to get a used front differential for my truck, it has 3.5 stamped on it, but all i see for sale is 3.55, and they say it will fit my truck ,is there a diffference

you want the same gear ratio in front as well as back otherwise the tcase will get whatls' called a wind up and won't shift out of 4 wd until you back the truck up without aloud bang . best thing to do is pull the cover off and there will be numbrs stamped on the pinion or rign gear noting how many teeth are on them. you would need a number similar to 13 pinion and 46 ring gear teeth or similar to get what you needed.
