2001 Dodge Dakota ABS speed sensor

I have a 2001 dodge dakota; 3.9 litre engine. the speedometer stopped working, I got engine light, ABS light, and brake lights on dash. diag. computer gives speed sensor error. First I replaced the output speed sensor on the transmission bell housing; didnt work. After some research I replaced the ABS speed sensor (autozone part) that sits on top of the rear differential, this is supposed to be the cure; didnt work. Spoke to a tech. at a dodge dealership who said that aftermarket sensors really stink so I bought a genuine MOPAR ABS speed sensor; still not working. Any ideas?

The speed sensor responsible for the speedo is the one on the transmission. It is a hall effect sensor. A Hall effect sensor is a transducer that varies its output voltage based on a magnetic field. It is a very basic system. Try this, remove the new sensor from the transmission. Inspect both the sensor and the rotor that turns in the transmission which produces the current via the magnet for corrosion or damage. If all appears good, it's time to start chasing wires.
