error codes p0401

401 is an egr code. not related to anytihn to do with evap/.

re smoke test the system for any other leaks.

Found the source of the p0401, it was a small hose damaged. Once the repairs are made, will the codes clear with driving eventually? Auto pats stores aren't supposed to clear codes and I at least want to know if they will clear on their own once repairs are done before shelling out $90 each for repeated smoke tests.

yes, t will clear itself after running the test for monitor and passing 3 times.

Thank you so much for your quick response, it is a great help for me! They sure don't make 'em like they used to, not so easy to figure the cars out these days, especially being on fixed income...$90 for smoke test, $90 to have them use their scanner... I know they need to charge to stay in business, but manufacturer's could at least try to consider the people who can only afford "DIY" and make diagnosing easier(thankfully I can at least do "the key dance" to get the codes). Thankfully, we have people like you to share their experience and knowledge! Also helpful to us women who fear being ripped off by shops, which is why I have begun to research my cars problem. Recently paid $150, for parts alone, for a job in which I found parts actual cost was $50 ("but its a life time guarantee, you won't need to do this again" for a 2001, these parts will outlast the darn van! Sheesh, atleast give me the option to decide if I want a lifetime guarantee on parts for a van that I probably won't be able to keep repaired for more than another year). Sorry for the rant, but now you know why I am seeking advice online here. Granted you can't tell me what I should pay for parts, but I think you can see where I would doubt a shops opinion on what the problem is.
