rear wiper and liftgate electrical problems

My 2001 chevy Tahoe lift gate lock and wipers are not working properly. Changed rear wiper motor and switch but no sucess. There is a clicking sound in lift gate when wiper switch or lock is turned on

Maybe the wiper linkage is in a bind. Take linkage loose from motor, can you operate rear wiper by hand? Is the wiper motor and rear wiper module a combined unit? With the rear panel off, you should be able to tell what is clicking? Is the wiper motor/module getting hot?
