I have to replace a bad starter. I have followed the manual instructions removing all bolts to the starter and transmission cover plate. I cannot remove the starter though. I push it forward and cannot get clearance to drop the starter down. I have been working on this for 2 hours and just cannot figure out the trick. please let me know what to do as it is raining now and my husband is doubting my ability.

Can you position the starter to vertical, will it come down? If the starter has a shield, remove the shield, see if it gives you any slack?
