charging needle bounces when turning off

2001 silverado, changed battery last week and now the charging needle bounces when turning off the truck, it also tends to move around more when putting the truck in gear. took truck to shop and found no electrical problem and the battery connection are tight. is it possibly a bad gauge?

Yes. but it could be a diode in the alternator is going bad causing the system to back feed AC voltage.
