Does the engine have to be removed to r&r timing chain

Sure would be nice to know the engine size when discussing an engine problem. It is very uncommon to need to remove the engine to replace the timing belt or chain. Usually the job can be done from underneath with the car on a hoist or well-supported on jack stands.
