the flex pipe on my vehicle is broken and i was wondering if i could use band clamps to attach a new one instead of paying to have it welded?

As long as you don't have an exhaust leak afterwards, I don't see why it would cause any problems. Welding is always the best option but sometimes clamps work just as well.
