i have a car that runs and drives good but the fuel guage does not work properly when i start it reads full an as i drive it the fuel guage starts to go down and after about 5 mins of driving it reads past empty and shows check guages light for fuel guage i would like to know if its a fuel sending unit or a ground as i been told thanks

To be honest, it could be either. However, to me it sounds like the rheostat (on the float) is bad. That would require that you remove the fuel tank to access the pump and float.
