I am having ABS problems with my 2003 Astro, Brake light was on, now off. ABS light is always on. But my unit after a few months was sending power through the brake line heating it up to the point that it melted the plastic brake line holders and caught the sensor cable on fire and lost brake pedal because it boiled the fluid in the lines and pushed the fluid out of the master cylinder.
Have you ever heard of something like this happening? Can the ECBM short out to the point that it sends or leaks voltage through the metal line and by the resistance of the metal line heat up to the point that it will catch the sensor wire harness on fire melt the brake line holders and cause a brake pedal failure because it boils the fluid out of the lines?
Additionally, I went to the local bone yard and replaced all brake lines, wire harness and ABS unit, plugged it all in and still had the same problem with the ABS light still on. And it happened again when I had just started the van, moved it to a spot to load the back and left it running to cool off the interior when I smelled plastic burning. Opened the hood and saw the master cylinder dripping brake fluid out from the top cover of the master cylinder tank. Turned off the van and coasted it to a spot that I could get under it to inspect the ABS and found that the sensor wire cover had been melted. But this time I had pulled the 60 amp ABS fuse so as to disable the unit. So I pulled all the connections to the ABS and got the brakes working to the point so I could drive the van carefully home.
Has anyone ever heard of something like this happening?
