Dr. Hagerty - thanks for your info regarding my 2001 BMW 535i and the window regulator for the front passagenger side. I have the tools and place but need step by step directions. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

There are several points that require special interest or you may have trouble. The battery should be disconnected first to avoid setting faults in the SRS system. When the door panel comes off and you are taking out the airbag, be aware that the airbag need not be completely disconnected, just remove the 3 10mm bolts and secure the unit out of the way. The wiring connector may be damaged when improperly disconnected. You have the replacement regulator in hand so lets continue. The door panel is secured by several screws and an internal clip, the screws are under the armrest and behind the SRS cover, there is one behind a small cover in the door pull and two behind the wood trim, the wood trim is pried off, I use plastic wedge tools for the trim and to pop the panel off the door frame. Then pull up on the panel to release the internal clip. Feed the door pull through the panel. The vapor barrier takes care to remove as it is held in place by a bead of mastic, remove it carefully as it will need to be reused. The regulator will then be exposed. The outside window trim will need to be removed to get the glass out of the door, start on the end and gently pry it off, do not bend it. Release the regulator attachments at the glass and remove the regulator. Reassemble and reconnect the battery.

You might want to get a repair manual for this and other tasks on the car. I recommend Robert Bentley publications as they are the best in my opinion. Amazon. Com is where to go for the book.
