fuel tank

i own an audi s3 8L (2001) model. i would like to know why there is two fuel level indicator in the fuel tank. is it because my fuel tank has two seperate compartments.if so, how are they interconnected since the fuel pomp is in the right one. please advise

The left side has a level indicator which activates the transfer pump to keep the fuel tank equally level on both sides

first of all, many thanks for the reply. is the transfer pump in question different from the fuel pump that insures fuel to the engine? aren't the fuel tanks interconnected?
