I have a 2000 Volvo V70 XC. Recently there has been a large amount of vibration both while idling and even more so when accelerating. The vibration is to the point where I don't feel comfortable driving the car, feels like the whole thing is going to fall apart at high speeds. My first thought was the motor mounts so I bought new mounts and had them replaced but the vibration is still there. Would this be caused by the drivetrain?

Yes. There have also been several occasions where it seemed to have trouble shifting when driving at high speeds.

OK have the engine control module scanned for codes to see which cylinder is misfiring since that is what a flashing check engine light indicates. The most likely cause will be a bad ignition coil. Check coil for proper spark, check spark plugs and make sure you are using Volvo spark plugs. Let me know what you find.
