I just purcahsed a 2009 V70 Volvo. I am concerned that the facotry wants to only change the oil at 7500 and only use a conventional 5/30 weight oil, Castrol GTX.

I have antique cars so I do understand about engines. Most other cars use at least a blended oil or at least a synthtic oil when going to 7500 mile between oil changes. I have a ford 500 that uses a blened 5/20 and factory recomends every 5000 miles.

Do you recommend going to at least a blended oil or full synthtic oil and what brand do you recommend.

Volvo recommends you service your vehicle every 7500 miles but I do my service every 5000 miles at the latest since I do a lot of freeway driving 50 miles one way LOL. You could have Volvo change your oil counter to 3000 miles if you prefer but they may charge you to reprogram the counter. If you want to stick with the 7500 miles you could use synthetic oil and I would recommend it as well. We have actually seen less sludge build up with Mobile One synthetic oil at those mile intervals vs. Conventional oil. Hope this helps some what and if you have any questions just let me know.
