My Volvo V40 makes a ticking noise just like a big clock... in even rythm... tick, tack, tick, tack...
It's got something to do with the vvl, because when I remove the electrical connection of the solenoid, the sound stops.

How can I find out, whether the vvt-pulley or the solenoid is defective... or maybe some problem with oil-pressure, or...???

Don't wanna use the "try and error method" as the parts are not cheap... ;-)

I would start with checking that the solenoid is ok, is there a set fault code in the system? have you checked for this yet?
