Have a 2000 vw passat gls. The oil pressure light came on, then went off a week ago. Then we noticed the instrument cluster screen was fading in and out. We took it to a vw dealer service department and they said they couldn't get the oil pressure light to come on and the car shows no signs of oil pressure issues. They did say however, that the instrument cluster needs to be replace and that "possibly" might be why the oil pressure light came on. Your thoughts as to what I should do? I have a daughter driving this car and want it to be safe.

Thank you, Terri

I know this is an old post, but in case someone else is reading this...

Instrument clusters can be re-built / serviced by:

Cheaper than a new cluster.
