How do i stop the rattling in the rear?

i have a 2000 vw jetta, there is a bumping in the rear end of the car like something is loose underneath it, we have replaced the shocks and it didnt help. any advice on what to do?

Shocks don't rattle. most likely the sway bars or suspension links are bad. You need to visually inspect for damages and wear to bushes and joints.

Loud clunking in the rear end of the A4 Golf/Jetta is due to broken / worn axle bushings.

#8 in attached image.
