i have a fault with the lambda sensor on my car which i believe was present when i purchased the car, i have had the car for two weeks, is there a way to prove that this fault was present when i brought the car

The Check Engine light would have been on. Anything that can have an adverse effect on tail pipe emissions will turn the light on.

Its gonna be hard to prove the oxygen sensor sometimes pops and goes away won't lock in for a scantool to catch it
