I had this code and it wont go away. It first started with misfire codes (specifying which cylinders where misfiring) so I replaced spark plugs. Those codes never came back then a month later the ps0300 code pops up. So I tested my spark wires notice one of them was too resistant and changed them. Then a month later the code comes back again! Ive taken it to mechanics that want to charge me hundreds and said then cant pinpoint the problem I would have to just get a list of repairs and hope it goes away. Help! I need to pass a smog check this month.

A PO300 is a random misfire. Have you checked fuel pump pressure? Does the vehicle seem to be running properly?

That is a tough one because it can be caused by so many different things. Since it is random, start by checking if there are any vacuum leaks around the intake or anywhere. You already replaced plugs, so as long as you gaped them properly, they should be fine. Another thing to check is the boot that attached to the spark plug. Check for marks on them that could indicate the boot is bad and arcing inside the head. Other possible problems could be a bad coil, faulty or partially clogged fuel injector, an open or shorted circuit in the fuel injector harness, poor connections at the injectors, coil harness is open or shorted, fuel pressure is incorrect, and even low engine compression.

Sorry I couldn't be more specific, but there are several things that can cause this code. I would start with checking for vacuum leaks and also check the boots on the plugs for evidence of arcing.

Let me know what you find.
