2000 Sienna with 62000 miles. When does the timing belt really need to be changed?

****** is 91 and doesn't drive much anymore. Probably will not have more then 1200 miles put on it in 2012. I just hate to see her spend $389 if not totally necessary. I realize that if the belt breaks the engine is trash.

That's not a bad price to have it swapped. I have to say to do it, just for the consequences if you don't. I like to always do water pumps, pulleys, tensioners and any other belts while I'm there too. But, if I wanted to be cheap, I would pull the covers off and inspect the belt and tensioners and then decide when is when. On one hand it might make it for 150K miles on the original belt, and on the other is a worthless car if it does go. But, still have to say to just do it. See if the mechanic will allow you to bring your own parts. You could save a good bit there.
