If the noise is from the transmission, it could be the bearings etc and to rectify is not going to be easy and costly. If the noise level is not too bad and has not deteriorated, you can live with it and wait till it reallys fails before replacing. Sometimes transmission whistling noise does not affect anything and can last a long time without failing.
