battery cables crossed while jumping

now car will not start. Just turns over. lights work, alarm works, Replaced battery. Where do we start to figure out what the problem is. I need my car to get to work. Single mom

Low battery was the primary problem.

now that he crossed cables it turns over and wont start.

you do a visual inspection for blown/burnt and also use a test light probe that you can get cheaply at dollar stores?
